Four Little Orphans

They came in, four of them, with innocent elfin faces and fat little legs. They were locked in baby slumber, well-fed and cleaned, and not yet realizing that they and their mother would never see one another again.
Four little orphans found outside a church, well hidden under a pile of leaves. Somewhere a mother cats looks for her lost children – or she is possibly dead.
The little ones slept through a long journey and woke only when cleaning and feeding were done by a parent not their own.
They slept soundly through the night, for this is the kindness by which nature cushions the blow of loss. The next day they were active and happily purred trustingly whenever they were attended to and cuddled. Then a new arrival appeared, billed as wild and thrown out from a home where she was no longer wanted. No wild animal this, but a a little cat trembling with fear, who growled when any strange person went by and to all appearnces she had recently weaned a litter.
By this time the orphans were awake and commenting in high dudgeon over their delayed breakfast. Baby squeaks overcame fear and the lonely rejected cat started to wash the angry little faces. Purrs began. No these children are not her own but a benevolent fate has brought together five souls who despeartely needed one another.
The cat has become happy and confident - the proud second moma of the most beautiful babies ever. Milady Donata, sweet brave little soul, you are the greatest gift!
After five months, Donata has found a wonderful home where she mothers the younger cats!
